These large scale paintings transform spaces. Fascinating juxtapositions of opposing textures in maximalist patterned landscapes abound. There might be shiny passages of gold leaf traversing across matte rugged concrete, or sequins buried in venetian plaster. They are archeological studies, inspired by the impression of time on everyday urban spaces. Graffiti on a hundred year old underpass wall which has been destroyed and created anew, or a tattered layered silk remnant reimagined as pattern stamped on wax. They are magical to engage with from varying angles, and they transform into an entirely new painting as the light changes throughout the day and night.
Fable
Fable
The periphery of the canvas is speckled with contrasting forms rendered in rusty orange and oxidized red, muted green, cool white and opaque black pigment. At the center, a heavy swathe of cement spans a stack of collaged elements. Equal measures of wild and industrial meet to form a cohesive whole.
